BUSINESS STUDIES DEPARTMENT

The Business Studies Department at Edgecumbe College teaches a wide range of business-related subjects to students interested in business, people and the economy. Our aim is to build a base of knowledge to prepare students for the commercial world so they may take advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Business Administration

This course will develop an understanding of business procedures and enable students to undertake routine tasks within an office environment. Students will learn and practice computer management techniques and the skills for processing and documenting cash transactions.

The course is designed to meet the needs of students who are thinking of going straight into employment after Year 12 or those who are thinking of further study in this subject.

Business Administration is taught at Year 11, 12 and 13 only and enables students to become more enterprising individuals. Students learn the theory behind marketing, planning, Human Resources, organisational structure and finance in relation to New Zealand businesses. Course participants have the opportunity to join the Young Enterprise Scheme, then put this theory into practice by forming a company to raise capital, produce and market a product or service with the aim of making a profit for all shareholders.

Students will gain “hands on” practical experience of being an entrepreneur – have a huge amount of fun and with the potential to actually make a profit from their enterprise activities.
