Hauora / Pastoral Care

Because we care about our students we provide a comprehensive and cohesive network of teaching and support staff that offer educational, emotional and pastoral support.

The Counselling service is a confidential way for students, staff and whanau to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe and welcoming environment.

All counsellors working in the school have been police checked, are trained in certain therapies, are registered members of a NZ Association and have regular supervision of their work.

Their work is confidential unless the 3 harms are disclosed

  • Harm to self
  • Harm by others
  • Harm to others

These disclosures then follow the schools’ Protected Disclosure Procedure which has is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Vulnerable Children’s Act.

The service operates in the following ways

  1. Students self-refer to the service by using the appointment system. They are then contacted with a day and time for their appointment. Students may also be referred by staff or whanau.
  2. Staff can self-refer or use the EAP Process (Employment Assistance Program) for support.
  3. Whanau can make appointments with the front office or by contacting the counsellor by text, phone or email.
  4. Outside agencies make appointments with the counsellor in advance of their visit.
